THE POSITION IN A NUTSHELL
Sciens Building Solutions is seeking an experienced, reliable, and highly skilled Fire Alarm/Low Voltage Installer to join our growing team of professionals. The installer will perform routine installation and checkout on a variety of systems utilizing codes, company procedures, engineering drawings, and personnel analysis. Develops a positive interface with the customer to ensure confidence and satisfaction with the system installation.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING (and doing well!)
* Install fire alarm, voice/data, and security.
* Install commercial & industrial 3-phase electrical power systems.
* Install all types of electrical conduit.
* Troubleshoot circuit opens, shorts, or ground conditions.
* Install and run wires, wire devices, fish walls, and doors.
* Complete paperwork, including but not limited to timesheets, expense reports, and on-site documentation. Keeps as-built drawings current.
* Comply with standards and procedures of industry and Sciens safety programs/policies.
What We Like About You
* High school diploma or equivalent.
* 1 to 3 years’ experience as a Fire Alarm/LV Installer.
* Solid working knowledge of commercial electrical systems.
* Able to read blueprints, technical drawings, and diagrams and follow specifications.
* Experience in termination of field devices.
* State and locally required minimum certifications.
* Intermediate knowledge of NFPA 70 and NFPA 72 installation requirements.
* Ability to work under tight deadlines and with a sense of urgency.
* Ability to work independently with some supervision.
* Good organizational, decision-making, and communication skills
* Be physically fit to perform the demanding work of the trade, including frequent lifting of up to 25 pounds, maximum occasional lifting up to 50 pounds; able to work from heights and climb ladders; standing and walking for most of the workday.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Performs any combination of following duties to assist in prevention of fires, extinguishing of incipient stage fires, contacting emergency help when necessary and other fire watch duties as needed.
* Ensure that the fire watch permit is filled out properly and has all required signatures in place prior to work starting.
* Contact emergency help as needed through the use of alarms, radio contact, telephone, etc.
* Be able to direct employees and other personnel out of affected hot work areas.
* Be able to use fire extinguisher on incipient stage fires.
* Inspection of fire extinguishers for proper charge, current inspection tag, condition, etc.
* Monitor affected area for a minimum of 30 minutes after all hot work is completed.
* Conduct a final inspection of entire area prior to leaving.
* Perform housekeeping duties in affected area to assist with reduction of fire hazards in immediate work area. NOTE: This can only be done if fire watch personnel are able to perform all other duties required of them.
* Detect, recognize and respond to dangerous conditions or situations.
* Regular attendance is required.
* Significant travel may be required.
* Performs other duties as required.

* Must be able to safely access all areas of property, buildings, structures, wharves, rooftops and other elevated positions, as well as, confined spaces.

About the Role

What You Will Do
This skilled position involves installing, programming, troubleshooting, configuring, commissioning, and servicing Fire Alarm Systems, Access Control and CCTV Systems as well as other related building system products at customer sites including panel repair/reprogram, device replacement/repair, resolving low voltage circuit troubles and system testing. Organize and effectively utilize technical resources, information, material, and support to assure efficient execution of all assigned tasks. * Perform installation/programming on integrated security and fire alarm systems
* Read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, submittals, specifications, software/systems programs, schematics, and operational/product manuals
* Supervise and inspect the installation of equipment to meet customer and contract specifications
* Complete necessary certification courses on internal and external products used
* Complete and submit all required task-related, activity, productivity, and other documentation in a timely manner

* At least 1-3 years of documented experience in low voltage electrical systems, including Fire/Life Safety Systems, Access Control, CCTV, and Security Systems
* High School Diploma or equivalent required
* Experience in reading and interpreting blueprints, submittals, and operational/product manuals
* Experience with hand tools test equipment, multi-meter usage, digital analyzer and commissioning devices
* Capable of performing physical labor to include carrying and moving equipment and tools up to 50-70 lbs.

About The Role
As a Fire Prevention Volunteer, you will perform a wide variety of technical and entry-level administrative tasks in support of the Fire Department. The volunteer will work under the supervision of the Fire Chief, Deputy Fire Marshal, Fire Secretary, and Fire Prevention staff.
* Assist with administrative tasks assigned by Fire Administration staff.
* Observe fire inspections, such as hazardous material and new construction inspections.
* Provide administrative support work, including answering inquiries from the public, on the telephone, and via e-mail.
* Independently conduct surveys and research utilizing Internet searches, City websites, telephone calls, and other means of collecting data and information.
* Assist with reports, summaries, charts, and presentations related to the research and analysis conducted.
* Assist with disaster preparedness and public education programs.
* Assist with special events.
EDUCATION:
Currently enrolled or have completed coursework in Fire Technology, Fire Science, Public or Business Administration, or a related field from an accredited college or university.
Experience
Previous administrative Fire experience is highly desirable.
Minimum Requirements
* Must be 18 years or older.
* High School Graduate or GED.
* Must be willing to volunteer a minimum of 8 hours per week.
* Must live within 30 miles of the City.

What You Will Do
This skilled position involves installing, programming, troubleshooting, configuring, commissioning, and servicing Fire Alarm Systems, Access Control and CCTV Systems as well as other related building system products at customer sites including panel repair/reprogram, device replacement/repair, resolving low voltage circuit troubles and system testing.
