Job Summary
Piper Fire Protection's Clearwater, FL branch is seeking a highly skilled Fire Sprinkler Fitter / Fire Pump Specialist with proven expertise in fire pump troubleshooting, repair, replacement, and controller diagnostics. This role is critical to maintaining the reliability and compliance of life safety systems across commercial and industrial facilities. Candidates must be able to walk onto a site with a down fire pump, diagnose the issue (mechanical or electrical), and confidently lead the repair or replacement.
The ideal candidate is not only proficient in sprinkler systems but also demonstrates deep, hands-on experience with fire pump systems, electrical controllers, and system diagnostics under real-world conditions. This is a hands-on, expert-level role focused heavily on fire pump systems, not just sprinkler installation.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
* Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair fire pump systems including diesel and electric-driven units
* Perform advanced controller diagnostics, including fault analysis, wiring verification, and component replacement
* Conduct fire pump inspections, testing, and maintenance in accordance with NFPA standards (e.g., NFPA 20 & 25)
* Lead and execute fire pump replacements and retrofits, including rigging, alignment, and commissioning
* Troubleshoot electrical issues related to controllers, transfer switches, sensors, and alarms
* Interpret blueprints, schematics, and controller wiring diagrams
* Verify system performance through flow testing and operational validation
* Provide clear documentation of deficiencies, repairs, and recommendations
* Mentor junior technicians in fire pump systems and diagnostics
Required Skills & Qualifications
* 5+ years as a Fire Sprinkler Fitter or Fire Protection Technician, with proven fire pump experience
* Demonstrated expertise with:
* Fire pump troubleshooting (no-flow, churn issues, pressure loss, controller faults)
* Pump drivers (electric & diesel)
* Controllers (across major manufacturers)
* Strong working knowledge of electrical systems and control circuits (low and medium voltage)
* Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and ladder diagrams
* Experience performing annual fire pump testing and system commissioning
* Ability to meet company driving eligibility requirements, including a valid driver’s license and acceptable motor vehicle record.
Preferred Qualifications
* NICET certification (Water-Based Systems Layout or ITM)
* Experience with major fire pump/controller manufacturers (e.g., Tornatech, Firetrol, Metron)

This role may require extended periods of sitting or standing, movement around the office or job site, and operation of standard equipment. The Prescribed Fire Manager provides support to the Alabama/Mississippi/Louisiana BU for fire management activities related to prescribed fires, wildfires, fire training and fire qualifications (See TNC’s Fire Management Manual). With prescribed burn qualifications including National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG) Prescribed Fire Manager (RXMG) and Prescribed Fire Burn Boss Type 2 (RXB2), the position reviews and approves fire management plans, prescribed burn plans, and contractor qualifications. The Prescribed Fire Manager mentors, supports, evaluates, certifies, and designates burn bosses. They provide Ignition Authorizations for Conservancy prescribed burns. They ensure Conservancy fire management requirements and guidelines are met or exceeded and keep senior leadership in their area informed of fire program activities, needs, risks and accomplishments. The Prescribed Fire Manager modifies or exempts specific fire management guidelines as defined in the Fire Management Manual, with written justification.
The Prescribed Fire Manager ensures that fire personnel qualification records are annually collected for and maintained in the IQCS database. They ensure timely notifications are made for all reportable fire incidents and annual reporting of the program's fire management activities. They review proposed contracts and agreements related to fire management activities and provide comments to TNC legal counsel. The Prescribed Fire Manager oversees internal reviews and designs and implements fire safety standards specific to the programs overseen, provided that those standards meet or exceed organizational standards, and may suspend fire management program operations if there is clear evidence of safety violations, serious risk of potential safety violations, or non-compliance with Conservancy SOPs, requirements, or guidelines.
As part of the incumbent’s ongoing professional development, they will keep abreast of internal and external developments in the field of wildland fire management to maintain excellence in their program. Additionally, they shall build strong partnerships with public and private partners to further the goals of the Conservancy in their area of responsibility, including delivery of or assisting with fire management training at local, regional, and national levels, participating in wildland fire suppression activities with partners as TNC employee or as a volunteer or short-term employee of the partner entity.

Salary Information

Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Fire Alarm Systems Team Lead to lead our fire alarm installation, service, and repair operations. This role is ideal for a strong fire alarm professional with proven low-voltage experience and leadership ability who thrives in the field while guiding and mentoring technicians.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead installation, service, repair, modification, and programming of low-voltage fire alarm and life-safety systems
* Perform and oversee inspection, testing, and maintenance per NFPA 72 and local AHJ requirements
* Troubleshoot system deficiencies and coordinate corrective repairs
* Supervise, mentor, and train fire alarm technicians
* Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, schematics, and manufacturer documentation
* Coordinate inspections and acceptance testing with fire marshals and AHJs
* Assist sales and project teams with bids, planning, and system layouts
* Prepare accurate service reports, inspection records, and compliance documentation
* Serve as the primary technical point of contact for assigned customers and projects
* Support emergency service calls as needed

Requirements
Required Qualifications
* 7+ years of fire alarm installation, service, inspection, and troubleshooting experience
* Strong low-voltage systems experience, required
* 2+ years of leadership, lead technician, or crew supervision experience
* In-depth working knowledge of NFPA 72, local fire codes, and electrical standards
* NICET Fire Alarm Systems Level II or higher (Level III preferred or willingness to pursue)
* Ability to meet Oregon and Washington AHJ requirements
* Valid driver’s license with clean driving record
Preferred Qualifications
* ICC certifications
* Experience working across multiple jurisdictions (OR & WA)
* Knowledge of fire sprinkler monitoring and system integration
Physical Requirements
* Ability to climb ladders and work at heights up to 40 feet
* Ability to work in confined spaces (crawl spaces, above ceilings)
* Ability to lift and carry tools and equipment up to 50 lbs

Works under the direction of an assigned Lieutenant. Listens for alarm and details of radio message received from alarm office. Searches for victims in smoky areas and determines safest evacuation routes for self and victim. Pries open vehicles, equipment, or structures using specialized equipment such as the hydraulic rescue tool. Drags or carries an unconscious victim down ladders or stairs. Connects hoses and couplings to water sources, pumps, nozzles, etc. and advances charged hose lines to fight fire. Identifies flammable or hazardous materials. Lifts and maneuvers hand-held and hand-raised ladders. Extinguishes fires in areas where there is no visibility and extreme heat. Opens holes in structures using axes, pike poles, or other equipment. Preserves evidence of arson for use by an arson investigator. Develops and maintains current knowledge of well-established firefighting procedures and maintains certifications and licenses. Cleans equipment and inspects or tests equipment on apparatus. Questions patient or other bystanders to gather medical information. Conducts assessments of patients and administers emergency medical care as a pre-hospital care provider. Transports patients to the appropriate hospital for appropriate treatment in response to patient's condition.

Typical Physical Demands
Requires walking, running, crawling, standing, climbing, stooping, and lifting and carrying a victim, hose, or other equipment weighing an average of 160-200 lbs. while wearing turnouts, Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA), air mask, gloves, etc. for long periods of time. Requires the ability to meet all physical demands required to extinguish fires and to make routine inspections of buildings, hydrants, and immediate surroundings for existence of fire hazards.
Typical Working Conditions
Will be exposed to extreme heat, thick smoke, and toxic fumes in firefighting situations. May be exposed to contagious infections and diseases in emergency situations. Works from assigned fire station to perform firefighting duties in emergency vehicles, such as aerial trucks, engines, or other apparatus at the scene of fires. Must be able to work a twenty-four (24) hour shift rotation. Exposed to extreme weather conditions. Interacts with the public under possibly stressful and/or dangerous conditions.
Qualifications
State of Tennessee National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) certified Firefighter I, II and EMT or AEMT, or eligible for reciprocity in the State of Tennessee and two (2) years of experience with a full- time Fire Service or five (5) years with a volunteer Fire Service. Candidate’s age must be at least nineteen (19) years by the starting date of the hiring class for which he/she is considered; and candidate’s age cannot exceed forty-five (45) years by the date of employment in this position. Must pass comprehensive medical examination and a physical ability test. Required to complete coursework/testing to obtain and maintain a Paramedic license by the State of Tennessee within twenty-four (24) months from their date of employment if applicant holds Advanced EMT licensure or within thirty-six (36) months of their date of employment if applicant holds EMT licensure. Must possess and maintain a valid Class D Tennessee Driver’s License with Endorsement F, as a condition of employment. Out of State applicants must have a valid driver’s license upon entry into the Fire Training Academy and within six (6) months must have a valid Tennessee Driver’s License with Endorsement F.
