Minimum Requirements
* Associate’s degree in Business, Fire Science, Emergency Management or a related field, or
* At least two (2) years of equivalent training and job experience (i.e. fire services personnel management including being a PA State Fire Academy Instructor).
Applicants must also have the following certifications and licenses prior to appointment:
* PA State Fire Academy Suppression Instructor.
* IFSAC/PRO-BOARD Fire Fighter II
* IFSAC/PRO-BOARD Fire Instructor I certification, or higher.
* IFSAC/PRO-BOARD for areas of instruction.
* A current PA driver’s License and maintain it throughout employment.
* Class B CDL with air brake and tank endorsement or acquire it within one year of appointment.
* A current PA Department of Health Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) certification
* Valid clearances (PA Child Abuse History, PA State Police Criminal Background Check, FBI Criminal Background Check).

* IFSAC/PRO-BOARD Fire Instructor II certification, or higher.
* PA State Fire Academy Suppression Instructor.
* Class B CDL with air brake and tank endorsement.

It is the policy of Allegheny County that in order to receive a final offer of employment, candidates must successfully pass a background check, which includes verification of Allegheny County Real Estate Tax status, and drug/medical examinations as required for the position. The pre-employment drug screen must be completed within 48 hours of the acceptance of the conditional offer of employment.
Position Summary
The fire instructor is responsible for delivering training courses in a classroom setting, hands-on practical sessions, and online/distance environments. They will also be responsible for scheduling training courses in both a resident and outreach format to the first response community of Allegheny County. This position will also provide supervision of visiting instructors, and monitor student and visiting instructor activities to ensure quality and safety standards are maintained. Additionally, the fire instructor will maintain tools, equipment and apparatus assigned to the division. The fire instructor will also keep the learning environment (classrooms and training field) in good working order. The fire instructor will occasionally work at and with staff from the Emergency Operations Center, and in the field providing emergency response capabilities, as needed.
Overview
Duties:
* Ensures a customer focused approach to instruction, scheduling and supervision of Academy programs.
* Enforces County, State, Federal and NFPA policies, standards, regulations, and statutes, as applied to emergency services instruction and training.
* Communicates effectively with students, visiting instructors, staff and customers, verbally, and in writing, utilizing the chain of command, as needed.
* Performs routine maintenance on Fire Academy resources as needed.
* Works shifts to include daylight, evening and overnight to facilitate instructional needs.
* Responds to callouts for emergencies and disasters and may work up to 24-hour shifts, as needed.
* Delivers instruction in both classrooms, distant/online, and field settings.
* Maintains tools, equipment and apparatuses assigned to the fire academy division.
* Retains all professional certifications related to emergency services.
* Performs related duties as assigned and required.

This position is responsible for the proper installation, operation, and maintenance of standard products fire suppression systems with heavy emphasis on kitchen systems. Responsibilities include inspecting, testing and performing system checks in accordance with fire code, identifying code and system deficiencies, and preparing accurate and timely inspection reports.

Shifts: 6.00 am to 2:30pm Monday through Friday.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
* Install or upgrade suppression systems in commercial buildings
* Test and repair systems already in place
* Perform inspections to ensure suppression systems are installed according to code
* Complete detailed inspection reports, documenting any issues
* Report results of work completed in an accurate and timely manner
* Inspect and maintain the truck and all related equipment, putting in repair requests as necessary to maintain safe operation.
* Operate warehouse equipment, including vehicles, in a way that facilitates the loading and unloading of the truck while observing all safety regulations and manufacturer’s safety instructions for that equipment.
* Respond to emergency service calls
* Perform other duties assigned by management.
Education/Qualification:
* At least 2 years e experience with installation, maintenance and inspecting commercial and industrial fire suppression systems

Responsibilities
* Install, inspect, test, and maintain special hazard fire suppression systems, including but not limited to:
* Clean agent systems (e.g., FM-200, Novec 1230)
* CO₂ systems
* Foam suppression systems
* Water mist systems
* Explosion suppression or detection systems
* Verify proper system operation through functional and acceptance testing
* Conduct routine maintenance and troubleshoot system issues or deficiencies

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Candidate must be highly motivated to perform duties related to firefighting, emergency medicine, rescue, training, physical fitness, maintaining the fire station, maintaining equipment, and other related tasks.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
An employee in this class participates in the mitigation of emergencies as a member of a team in responding to fire alarms and emergency calls. Primary duties may include nozzle operation, securing a water supply, rescue operations, and administering emergency medical care. The employee shall be able to follow policy and procedure, be capable of using sound judgement to make decisions, work as a part of a team, and be self-motivated while working independently. Public contact is required in the performance of the employee’s duties and should be performed in a professional, tactful, respectful, and firm manor. Duties are physically demanding and are performed under the usual hazards of firefighting, and emergency response situations. The employee will be under the general supervision of a Fire Officer.

* Perform installation, inspection and testing of all types of fire alarm and engineered and pre-engineered suppression systems at the required frequencies in accordance with the requirements and instructions contained in the applicable NFPA codes and standards
* Perform programming, testing, final inspections, as-built drawings and customer training for installations. Troubleshoot and perform service and repair of fire alarm and engineered and pre-engineered suppression systems
* Record and document all inspections, repairs, discrepancies, and recommendations either electronically or manually
* Maintain a good positive relationship with the customer and pass on information to the appropriate personnel for follow up, quotes, questions, or concerns
* Maintain vehicle in clean and orderly fashion. Keep vehicle stocked with parts, equipment, and supplies, necessary to perform the job
* Maintain equipment and tools necessary to safely perform job
* Evaluate customer site for additional equipment and services that customer may require
* Work in compliance with the Company's safety program
* Perform on-site and/or off-site (phone) emergency troubleshooting of fire alarm and suppression systems
* Discuss deficiencies noted with customer, explaining the problem and its resolution
* There may be situations which require work on nights, weekends, and/or holidays. For some locations, these demands will be more frequent or required than others. Discuss this with your Manager
* Must be comfortable with heights, working on ladders or lifts, or in confined spaces
Qualifications
* A minimum of 2 years of fire detection and signaling systems experience which MUST include:
* At least 12 months of fire alarm systems experience, including alarm and detection, notification, sprinkler monitoring, and interfaces and controls for agent releasing suppression systems (either agent or water-based systems) in any of the following roles/functions:
* installation
* inspection
* testing
* commissioning
* technical system estimating and sales
* plans preparation
* maintenance
* Must possess the ability to calculate basic math including fractions, decimals and percentages
* Must possess the knowledge and ability to understand and operate basic computer functions, operating systems and software applications such as Windows, Word, Apple IOS, Android and Outlook. In addition, required to learn and use industry specific devices and software
* Knowledge and understanding of low voltage and wiring. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and wiring diagrams
* Must currently have a valid U.S. driver's license

JOB DESCRIPTION
The purpose of the Fire Suppression Technician is to provide installation, inspection, service and/or repair of Fire Extinguishers, Emergency Exit Lights and/or any Pre-Engineered Suppression Systems including any associated Detection & Control Systems with minimal supervision.
Essential Job Duties

What You Will Be Doing
* Inspect, test, and maintain kitchen hood suppression systems in accordance with NFPA 17A, NFPA 96, and manufacturer guidelines.
* Perform installations, upgrades, and modifications of pre-engineered kitchen fire suppression systems.
* Replace system components such as nozzles, fusible links, and tanks as required.
* Accurately complete service tickets, inspection reports, and deficiency documentation.
