Job Summary
JOB DESCRIPTION
The purpose of the Fire Suppression Technician is to provide installation, inspection, service and/or repair of Fire Extinguishers and any Pre-Engineered Suppression Systems.
Essential Job Duties
* Use required tools and test equipment such as power machine groovers, cutters, band saws, lifts, etc. to repair or replace fire extinguishers, pre-engineered systems.
* Comprehensive working knowledge of NFPA codes, standards, and systems such as all types of fire extinguishers, pre-engineered suppression systems and/or fire alarm & security systems.
* Troubleshoot and identify defective components of pre-engineered suppression systems.
* Repair or replace damaged components of pre-engineered suppression systems as well as fire extinguishers
* Communicate with internal and external customers in a professional manner.
* Required to be punctual to required work locations and complete scheduled projects in timely manner.
* Use Field Service Lightning to track work orders, materials needed, time on job, etc.
* Complete documentation on work orders.
* Understand and follow SFP’s Safety program, SDS book, Hazardous communication program, policies and procedures. Participate in weekly Toolbox talks. Employee must always know location all related safety documentation on each project.
* Ensure company provided vehicle is clean and well maintained as required by company policies.
* Periodically attend seminars or similar education/training sessions to stay abreast of latest technology, codes, and standards changes.
* Train service technician trainees in all applicable aspects of this job description. Communicate with internal and external customers in a professional manner.
* Other duties may be assigned.
Qualifications

* High School Diploma or equivalent, required.
* State or any required certification, preferred.
Experience, Knowledge, Skill Requirements
* 2 Industry experience specifically within Fire Suppression.
* 2 years of professional computer skills
Communication Skills
* Must have the ability to effectively read, write and communicate in English with employees and customers.
Other Qualifications
* Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record required.
* Must be able to comply with SFP’s Drug and Alcohol Policy and Background screening requirements, which may also include customer-specific requirements based on contractual agreement.
* Must be able to travel 20% of the time. (Possible overnight stays)

About The Opportunity
Elite Fire Services is seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Fire Extinguisher & Kitchen Fire Suppression Technician to join our growing team out of our Elite Fire Services office location in Columbus, OH. This role is responsible for inspecting, servicing, installing, and maintaining commercial kitchen fire suppression systems and portable fire extinguishers in accordance with industry standards and safety regulations.
The ideal candidate will have experience in fire protection services or a mechanical/technical background and be comfortable working in commercial kitchens, restaurants, and other business environments.
Key Responsibilities
* Inspect, service, and maintain commercial kitchen fire suppression systems.
* Perform inspections, testing, maintenance, and recharging of portable fire extinguishers.
* Install new fire suppression systems and fire extinguishers when required.
* Ensure compliance with NFPA codes and local fire regulations.
* Maintain accurate service reports and inspection documentation.
* Diagnose and repair system deficiencies.
* Communicate with customers regarding system condition, repairs, and compliance requirements.
* Maintain service vehicle, tools, and equipment.
* Follow all company safety policies and procedures.
Qualifications
* Experience with kitchen fire suppression systems and fire extinguishers preferred (Ansul, Pyro-Chem, etc.).
* Knowledge of NFPA 10 and NFPA 17A standards is a plus.
* Mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
* Valid driver's license with clean driving record.
* Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work on ladders.
* Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
* Good communication and customer service skills.
Preferred Certifications
* Ohio State Kitchen Suppression System and Extinguisher Certifications (preferred but not required)
* OSHA safety training (preferred but not required)

Objective
A Technician is involved with the installation, programming, testing, field service, and training of Engineered Fire Alarm Systems.
Roles And Responsibilities
* Review job information on new jobs.
* Confirm that there is a clear understanding of the scope of work.
* Relay any changes in the scope of work to the Project Manager
* Confirm who we are contracted through.
* Review the location of critical equipment (control panels, annunciators, etc.)
* Obtain a copy of the Specs and read it thoroughly.

Review Drawings and Jobsite.
* Confirm location of critical equipment (inquire w/PM if necessary).
* Relay any inconsistences with GC Drawings back to Project Manager

* Confirm all necessary specification and code compliance requirements (hardhat, steel toe, etc.), parking restrictions, working hours, etc.
* Confirm job schedule with client, if you have not received it from the PM. Critical dates must be in writing.
Determine and maintain project scheduling.
* Check in with contractor daily, when on-site.
* Layout preliminary schedule of installation showing rough-in, wire pull, device installation, start-up, and final test. Verify with PM allowed hours for each phase.
* Report any major hold-ups to the PM and how it will affect the schedule.
* Attend jobsite meetings when applicable.
* Get critical contact names & phone numbers such as electrical foreman, general contractor, etc.
* Ensure that the PM has obtained the permit, where required.
* Requisition project materials for the job.
* Plan Ahead
* Estimate and request materials for installation, from the PM. You are planning a week in advance.
* Be prepared to justify all additional equipment, or material.
* A change to the scope of work will be a Change Order. Notify your PM first. And DO NOT proceed until approval from, AND ONLY from your PM.
* Coordinate with PM and job-site contractor for location to store equipment safely and securely for job.
Installation
* Supervise and/or install system in a cost effective but quality manner.
* Maintain current as-built drawings, these are to be updated daily.
* All tie-ins of external equipment (i.e. AHU shutdown, Kitchen hood system, Door Access) will be performed only when and if that specified contractor is with you.
* Perform programming of system as needed, verifying that system will meet all code and specification requirements. Or request a programmer from your PM.
* Perform 100% pre-test of all installed equipment and their desired function.
* AHU shutdown, does it shut down the AHU, NO, test not passed.
* Perform preliminary test with GC, if required.
* Perform final test with AHJ and/or customer.
* Certify system as required by the State of Texas and local AHJ.
* Perform customer training of the system as necessary.
* Turn in all as-built drawings, signed FMLs, sign off sheets to your PM.
Administration
* Assist PM’s with tracking all in-progress jobs weekly.
* Assist PM with tracking labor and equipment costs for job.

Tools
* Keep jobsite tools and equipment secure.

WFE Company Trucks
* Maintain a clean vehicle at ALL times.
* Inform your PM when maintenance is needed such as tire rotation, oil changes, repairs, etc.
* Coordinate, with your PM, on Monthly Truck Audits – log any damages right away
Miscellaneous
* Maintain good relationships with various contractors and customers

What You Will Be Doing
* Perform installation, inspection and testing of all types of fire alarm and engineered and pre-engineered suppression systems at the required frequencies in accordance with the requirements and instructions contained in the applicable NFPA codes and standards
* Perform programming, testing, final inspections, as-built drawings and customer training for installations. Troubleshoot and perform service and repair of fire alarm and engineered and pre-engineered suppression systems
* Record and document all inspections, repairs, discrepancies, and recommendations either electronically or manually
* Maintain a good positive relationship with the customer and pass on information to the appropriate personnel for follow up, quotes, questions, or concerns
* Maintain vehicle in clean and orderly fashion. Keep vehicle stocked with parts, equipment, and supplies, necessary to perform the job
* Maintain equipment and tools necessary to safely perform job
* Evaluate customer site for additional equipment and services that customer may require
* Work in compliance with the Company's safety program
* Perform on-site and/or off-site (phone) emergency troubleshooting of fire alarm and suppression systems
* Discuss deficiencies noted with customer, explaining the problem and its resolution
* There may be situations which require work on nights, weekends, and/or holidays. For some locations, these demands will be more frequent or required than others. Discuss this with your Manager
* Must be comfortable with heights, working on ladders or lifts, or in confined spaces
Qualifications
* A minimum of 5 years of fire detection and signaling systems experience, which MUST include:
* At least 33 months of fire alarm systems experience, including installation, maintenance, inspection, testing, commissioning, technical system estimating and sales, plan preparation, code compliance review, project management, and/or technical business management.
* The three additional years from Level II must include field experience, team leadership, and at least one year in a fire alarm systems technical management role
* The 5 years MAY include up to 3 months of related experience
* Must possess the ability to calculate basic math including fractions, decimals and percentages
* Must possess the knowledge and ability to understand and operate basic computer functions, operating systems and software applications such as Windows, Word, Apple IOS, Android and Outlook. In addition, required to learn and use industry specific devices and software
* Knowledge and understanding of low voltage and wiring. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and wiring diagrams
* Must currently have a valid U.S. driver's license
IDEAL QUALITIES
* 5 – 10 years of experience with fire alarm and suppression systems
* NICET III Certification in Fire Alarm Systems
* State license in the relevant state in which you’re applying
* Experience with electrical wiring and circuitry, desired

WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Overtime may be required, and the number of hours may vary based on work location. May be exposed to all kinds of work environments. Varying work environments from hot to cold temperatures and exposure to dust. Occasionally asked to travel overnight to a customer location. Must be able to successfully lift up to 50 pounds occasionally. Frequent lifting and carrying of toolboxes, equipment, parts, tools, equipment, cabling, and/or wiring. Frequent ladder climbing and checking, pulling wire, etc. Walking, stooping, bending, crouching, kneeling, and raising hands overhead. Driving is required and the amount of time driving may vary. Required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for this position in accordance with safety standards
