General Summary:
The Senior Fire Alarm Technician will be responsible for installing, programming and servicing Fire Alarm systems, be the point of contact for service of the systems, managing installation projects and project budgets, leading service and installation project crews, and working with customers on the integration of other related building systems.

Responsibilities:
* Diagnoses and repairs physical security systems at the customer location in an efficient and timely manner with the objective of restoring systems to full functionality.

General Purpose

ELIGIBILITY FOR VACATION LEAVE
All regular employees who are regularly scheduled to work on an average, a minimum of twenty (20) hours per week, who have held a position in the City Service for a period of six months from date of employment, shall be eligible for vacation allowance as hereinafter set forth. Part-time employees shall accrue vacation leave at a pro-rated amount of full-time entitlement based on the number of hours that they are scheduled to work. Regular employees in the City Service shall accrue vacation credit at the following rates per pay period, calculated from the date of employment of each employee:

SICK LEAVE WITH PAY
Employees shall be entitled to accrue sick leave with pay in accordance with the Rules of the Civil Service Commission.
ACCIDENT WITH PAY LEAVE
The Amended Section 4.4 of the Ordinance shall become effective upon adoption and shall apply to occupational injuries and occupational diseases occurring on and after date of adoption. Occupational injuries and occupational diseases occurring before such date will be governed by the Ordinance in effect at the time of the date of injury or disease.
PREGNANCY LEAVE
* Pregnancy shall be treated the same as any other temporary physical disability.
* An employee on pregnancy leave shall use accumulated and unused regular sick leave time and then (unless granted use of special sick leave) shall be on leave without pay, unless the employee chooses to use any accumulated and unused annual leave.
* An employee going on pregnancy leave shall give written notice to her department head with appropriate medical verification. Key Responsibilities:

Position Summary
Put your maintenance and repair skills to good use at Vallen as a Service Technician I focused on Life Safety Services in the Vallen Safety Services Group. In this position, you will install and/or inspect, test, and maintain (ITM) life safety systems and equipment for established customers on a scheduled basis.
Essential Job Duties And Responsibilities
* Installing Life Safety Systems, conducting service calls, perform system testing and inspections to the prescribed standards.
* Performing on-site emergency troubleshooting and maintaining of customer's Life Safety Systems by identifying code issues and discrepancies.
* Preparing accurate, timely Technician worksheets (TWS) and reports.
* Providing customer service in the area of installation and/or ITM of Life Safety Systems. Including, but not limited to: Fire Extinguishers, Fire Alarm and Detection Systems, Gas Detection Systems, Foam Systems, Dry Chemical Systems, Clean Agent Systems, Special Hazard Systems and Water Based Systems.
* Basic knowledge of regulatory standards pertaining to assigned duties, i.e., State, OSHA, and NFPA regulations, etc.
* Assist in shipping and receiving, unloading trucks, checking in merchandise, matching purchase orders to sales orders & distributing to sales associates for processing.
Job Qualifications
* High School or GED
* Minimum 1 Certification (manufacturing/state) in a fire protection related field
* Minimum 1-year related experience
* Mechanically inclined
* Specific -- RELEVENT experience
* Experience in the installation and/or maintenance, repair and service of life safety systems and equipment.
* Ability to repair and service equipment sold by Vallen.
* Current Motor Vehicle License with good driving record.
* Commercial Driver's License required if carrying loads of hazardous materials.
* Proficient with hand tools.
* Able to complete repairs and maintenance of equipment in a timely and accurate manner.
* Assist warehouse personnel with order fulfillment if needed.
* Maintain minimum productivity of 95% within 60 days.
* Keep all certifications and licenses current and renewed by completing continuing education as required.
* Ability to read, write and comprehend English (operational, process and quality instructions).

Key Responsibilities:
* Installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of fire alarm systems infrastructure
* Running low-voltage cabling in commercial buildings, including drilling concrete walls and limited conduit work
* Installing cable support structures such as j-hooks, cable racks, and innerduct
* Conducting tests to ensure all newly installed cable systems and component devices are operational

Qualifications:
* Proven experience in field installation within security and life safety environments: Fire Alarm and/or Intrusion
* In-depth knowledge of NFPA standards, especially NFPA 70 and 72
* Experience reading blueprints and site maps
* Comfortable working at heights of 20-60 feet using lifts
* Ability to work in cramped spaces and operate BOOM or scissor lifts
* Proficiency with smartphones, computers, email, spreadsheets, and Microsoft Office
* Possession of basic PPE and reliable transportation during the initial training period
* Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record (no DUI/DWI in the last 3 years)
* Availability for extensive travel (2-6 weeks at a time) and flexible shifts including nights and on-call work
Preferred Qualifications:
* Knowledge of cabling infrastructure and conduit installation
* NICET Level 2 certification or State-required licenses

This position is responsible for the installation and certification of life safety systems and associated devices according to local & national codes and standards. Installers are responsible for general assigned installation activities such as installation, testing, trouble-shooting and subsequent repairs on the installation of fire alarm/life safety systems and related components.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
* Must be punctual. Being on time is critical due to the regular need to perform functionality and sound tests prior to a building’s tenant arrivals.
* Review blueprints/drawings to determine device locations and placement.
* Ensure materials and equipment match scope of work and job sold.
* Install equipment according to national electrical, fire alarm and life safety codes and installation standards
* Meet with building engineers, property management and/or site contacts upon arrival to facility to notify of work status and again upon conclusion of workday.
* Verify integrity of all work prior to tying-in to building’s fire alarm system. This may include functionality testing of installed devices, metering circuits and devices for shorts, grounds and faults.
* Repair as needed to ensure a fully compliant system operation.
* Conduct sound tests to ensure decibel level of installed notification appliances meet or exceed NFPA requirements.
* Provide documentation according to NFPA standards upon completion of work with additional sign-off upon successful testing & certification.
* Maintain accurate records of work performed. Turn-in “as-built” drawings and required copies of NFPA forms to Installation Coordinator upon completion of job.
* If assigned a company vehicle, maintain an accurate inventory of truck stock, ensure vehicle is regularly serviced and immediately report any problems with vehicle
* Provide a weekly/daily job status for review with manager
* Maintain assigned tools and equipment and report any defects or problems immediately upon discovery.
* Perform other duties assigned by management.
Education/Qualification:
* Must have strong electrical and technical aptitude and the ability to apply learned skills.
* A minimum of 3 years of Fire Alarm industry experience is required.
* NICET certification in Fire Alarm Technology shall be pursued and acquired within first year of employment; and certification maintained while employed
* Shall be able demonstrate proficiency in use of test equipment to include digital multi- meters, battery analyzers, sound level meters and communication equipment.
* Must demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills and be customer service oriented.
* Should have experience in managing teams or groups of individuals on projects.
* Must have good interpersonal skills and be able to work in a team environment as well as work independently.
* Must have a clean driving record and reliable transportation to/from the office or job site.
* Must be flexible with scheduling requirements that occasionally will require evening, weekend and/or out-of-town assignments.
